I decided that on slow-news-days that I would introduce you to our pets, starting wih the oldest. First in my introductions will be Racé ("Rotchy"). He started out as Sally's kitty years ago, and we can't remember how old he is, but somewhere around 13 or 14 years old. He was christened Liberacé (thus, the pronounciation of the nickname) as he replaced her beloved Libby. And yes, he did play the piano by walking over the keys when he was a kitten. He is beginning to show his age this winter. It is the first winter that he has spent almost entirely inside the house. Most of the time you will find him just like this, curled up in a chair or somewhere in the warm sunshine. He varies between tolerating the other (much younger) cats to completely ignoring them. One night, recently, he woke me up by making a racket in the kitchen. When I went downstairs to see just what he was up to, I found him sitting on top of the breadmaker (a favorite perch, as it is on the bottom shelf of the bakers' unit), but he had bumped the door open and was sort of caught in the bread pan! The noise he was making was the pan banging in the machine. After a second trip downstairs, for the same reason (!), he got put in the downstairs bedroom with the other cats. We are hoping that he perks up some when the weather warms up. He really enjoys being outside when it is nice out, so we will see what the coming of spring does for his health.
