Lucas Costa Bacon!

I'm not ignoring the fact that our fifth grandson has arrived, safe and sound - just trying to be patient and let his parents post some pictures.....
He is beautiful!! He was born on Tuesday, October 19, 2010 in Zwiebrucken, Germany. :)
We will be going to Germany in December, along with the entire family - first time to have all the grandsons together! Can't wait - it will be so much fun!!

Oops! Out of order - these are from 10-10-10!!

I'll not add much to the pictures themselves, but there were a couple of "Sam-isms" that I would like to share:

"I like your hair." - to me, while we were out by the sandbox, out of the blue.

"What do you think of my shirt?" - while we were walking along the stream in the park. After I assured him it was a very nice shirt, and I liked it alot, this was followed by him taking off his hat, looking up at me and asking "Do you like my haircut?"

Sally reminded me of another one, while we were on our hike: Scott had held a branch down so we could all step over it, and Sam very solemnly took the rest of us by the hand, one-by-one, and helped us over the obstacle. I don't remember him saying much, just doing it. Very sweet!

Also on the hike: (I wrote this by the picture, but will expand here) We had climbed up a small ravine just to find out that the trail dead-ended a little past the top, so we had to go down the way we came up. Sam, in the lead, as usual, handed me his cap and calmly stated: "Now I'm going to somersault down the hill." To which Gatfly replied, slightly less calmly: "Oh no, you're not!" and took him by the hand. ;) All made it safely down!

Sally said that he has been working on his conversational skills - too funny! He does very well, though, keeping up his end of a conversation!

First Grandson Sleepover and Fun Weekend

We finally had our first opportunity to have grandsons (any of them!) overnight, without their parents!! We met Scott and Sally in Abbotsford on Thursday night after chores (10/14) and swapped vehicles, kids and all. They had to work on Friday but didn't have daycare available that day, so I arranged for Pete (one of our relief-milkers) to come and milk in my stead. [We already had Linda coming on Saturday morning, and she is busy helping Tom with their fieldwork right now.] That way, I could be there for them all day. A-L-L day. I had forgotten how tired a mom can get! Oh my! But we had fun, fun, fun! Sam was 3 in July and Ryan will be 1 on 10/29, so it was go, go, go! Ryan doesn't walk yet, but that doesn't seem to slow him down much. He tries to keep up with Sam, as best he can. And instinctively knows which toys Sam would rather he not play with. And vice versa, I might add. Did I mention that Sam is 3? He is already showing signs of male-pattern-selective-hearing. Good luck with that, Sally! :)
I had kept the logs that Grandpa Don Bacon had made for Josh when he was little, and got them out for Sam last weekend. He caught on VERY quickly how to build with them and made some interesting designs. He also had alot of fun moving them around with the various pieces of farm equipment we have in the toybox.
We spent quite a bit of time outdoors as it was simply beautiful out! We gleaned corn for the squirrels, checked out the tractors, calf barn and cows, the big bales - both squares and rounds, read books (Boppa got in on that, too), played with the dogs and cats, fed the guinea pig, watched the birds - you get the idea - we had a wonderful day! Mama and Daddy came on Friday night, to find bathed and tired, but happy, little boys waiting for them.
Enjoy the photos from that day and the rest of the weekend as well. Gotta love those boys!
